The fluorescent lights of the accounting department seemed to hum a mocking tune as Maya gathered her things. Her stomach churned. A knot tightened in her chest, making it hard to breathe. This new role, in marketing, was supposed to be a promotion, a chance to grow. But leaving the familiar comfort of spreadsheets and numbers... it felt like being cast adrift.

She clutched her coffee mug a little too tightly, the ceramic digging into her palm. Her colleague, David, offered a half-hearted farewell. "Good luck in the jungle," he said, his voice flat. Maya managed a strained smile.

The elevator doors closed, and the silence descended, amplifying the tremor in her hands. She thought of her meticulously organized desk, the precise order of her pens. Marketing... it sounded loud, chaotic. A single tear traced a path down her cheek, quickly wiped away.
