Gemotions

The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the dusty living room. Maya felt a sharp throb behind her eyes, the beginning of a headache. The scent of old books and mothballs was overwhelming, a physical assault on her senses.

Her brother, Ben, was busy examining the plumbing, a practical concern she couldn't match. She felt adrift, lost in a sea of feelings she couldn't name, unable to articulate.

Every creak of the floorboards, every whisper of the wind through the eaves, seemed to amplify her internal state. She wanted to scream, to lash out, to break something, anything, to release the pressure that was building inside her. She just stood there, biting her lip, fighting back the tears.

“Well,” Ben said, wiping his hands, “that’s… something.” Maya just stared at the floor.
