Gemotions

The aroma of freshly cut grass, usually invigorating, now seemed to mock Chloe. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, a nervous habit that had returned with a vengeance. She stood near the edge of the field, watching the other girls go through drills. Her cleats felt heavy, her body felt sluggish. She had missed the goal she usually would've made in the final scrimmage.

Coach Evans called her name, and her stomach lurched. The other girls' stares were piercing.

"Chloe, can I speak with you?" The coach's voice carried, but it was the silence that followed that was deafening. Her breath caught in her throat.
