The weight of the book, usually a source of comfort, now felt like a lead brick in his hands. Daniel felt a knot tighten in his throat as he scanned the article, the evidence laid bare. His literary hero, the celebrated author, Arthur Bellweather, had copied from his work. He felt like he'd been punched. He placed the book carefully on the table, as if afraid to damage it.

He walked to the window, the sunlight too bright, the world outside too loud. He gripped the edge of the windowsill, his knuckles turning white. His breath hitched in his chest.
