The cafeteria, normally a vibrant hub of chatter and laughter, transformed into a hostile landscape. Each bite of her sandwich tasted like ash. The news, delivered to her in a curt email, had poisoned everything. She watched the other students, their faces glowing with an ease she no longer possessed. Their conversations, once innocuous, now felt like a chorus of judgment. The clatter of plates, the scraping of chairs – each sound grated on her nerves. She pushed her half-eaten lunch away, the food suddenly repulsive, and rose, desperate to escape the suffocating atmosphere.
