The spotlight felt uncomfortably bright. She shifted from foot to foot, feeling exposed and vulnerable. Her mother, her face etched with a mix of pride and nostalgia, gave her a reassuring smile. She felt a knot tighten in her stomach.

She had always found it difficult to express her feelings, particularly when it came to her parents. Now, she was expected to articulate her gratitude, her admiration. The task seemed impossible.

She began the speech, her voice a little too loud, a little too shaky. She spoke of her father's kindness, his generosity. But the words felt hollow, inadequate. She fought back the urge to flee. She sat down, suddenly exhausted.
