Gemotions

"Mom?" Sarah whispered to herself. The letter, found tucked inside a cookbook, was addressed to her mother. Reading the first few lines, she felt an unsettling fluttering in her stomach. It described her teenaged self’s battles with her body, her crushing insecurity, her desperate longing to belong.

She could almost feel the phantom weight of those anxieties, the constant feeling of inadequacy. Her knuckles turned white as she gripped the paper. The world outside seemed to recede, leaving her alone with the ghosts of her past. She set the letter down and headed to the window, needing air.
