"Alright," the executor said, his voice unusually loud in the small, cluttered apartment. Liam and Chloe sat side-by-side, on the worn sofa. They had barely spoken since their father's passing. The tension in the room was almost palpable. Liam found himself picking at a loose thread on the armrest, his fingers clumsy.

The will reading began. Chloe, her face impassive, listened intently. Liam found his breath getting shallower with each sentence. He felt the blood draining from his face.

"Chloe," the executor stated, "you are to receive the majority of the estate, including the family car, the savings accounts, and the shares in the company."

Liam felt a thud in his chest. He concentrated on the intricate pattern of the carpet.

"Liam, you are to inherit the contents of the storage unit."

Liam’s fingers continued to work on the thread. The room tilted.
