The digital glow of the computer screen reflected in his widening eyes. A sizable sum, hidden away, tucked carefully out of sight. It was supposed to be *their* money. He’d stumbled upon it while trying to fix the printer. The anger burned hot in his throat.

He found her in the living room, meticulously polishing the antique furniture they had restored together. He watched her, a knot tightening in his stomach. The intimacy of the task, the shared history, suddenly felt tainted.

"Where did this come from?" he finally asked, his voice strained. She paused, the rag still in her hand, her gaze darting away from his. Then, she shrugged and carried on, the silence between them now a physical barrier.
