Gemotions

The flyer announcing the condo conversion fluttered to the floor as David tossed it aside. The crisp paper felt offensive against his calloused hands. He glared at the pristine white wall of his apartment, a blank canvas of his future doom.

He wandered through the rooms, touching the surfaces of things, wanting to retain the familiarity. He felt a cold dread wrapping around his chest. He stood in the doorway of his bedroom, his shoulders slumping. He felt like his lungs were being squeezed.

He went back to the front door, grabbed his keys and wallet, and went for a long walk. The urban landscape felt both alien and familiar.
