The ice rink gleamed under the overhead lights. He felt a certain… *pull*… in his chest. He always loved the feeling of his skates gliding across the ice. Now, the coach wanted him to switch from forward to defense. He had been a player for so long.

He remembered the thrill of scoring a goal, the shared celebration with his teammates, the feeling of the wind in his face as he raced down the ice. He thought of his position and the camaraderie he'd forged.

He looked around at the familiar faces, the familiar sounds. The thought of change, of not playing that role, hit him like a physical blow. He thought of all the shots he took, all the goals he'd scored. It was a piece of him that was being altered.
