"It's just not true," Alex mumbled, the words lost in the echoing expanse of the academic dean's office. He ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair. The accusation of academic dishonesty felt like a betrayal. He felt an intense need to defend himself.

The room’s starkness, the impersonal furniture, and the sterile air amplified his distress. He could feel the weight of the investigation pressing down on him. His thoughts drifted back to his childhood bedroom, to the vibrant posters of his heroes and the well-worn comic books scattered across his floor.

He recalled his father’s gentle encouragement, his unwavering belief in Alex's abilities. Alex closed his eyes, picturing the familiar comfort of his parents’ house, the smell of dinner cooking, the warmth of his family surrounding him. The fear that those comforts might be taken away filled him with a quiet despair.
