Gemotions

The old, leather-bound journal lay open on Leo's lap, the pages filled with their shared sketches and handwritten notes. He and Chris had always dreamed of opening their own art studio, a haven for creativity. They'd both applied for the gallery assistant position. The interview was for Leo.

Leo ran his fingers over a faded drawing, a collaborative effort from years ago, of a fantastical landscape. They had imagined their studio would be filled with light, music, and the constant hum of creation.

His phone buzzed. Chris. Leo felt a tightening in his chest.

The text read: “Did you get the interview?”

Leo looked at the drawing, at the familiar lines, at the shared vision, at the two of them. He picked up his phone, and typed back. His mind was filled with memories, and he felt a pressure in his chest.

“Yes,” he wrote, and paused. He added a sad face.

The reply came almost instantly: “That’s awesome, Leo.”

Leo looked at the text. He was filled with a deep, aching sadness.
