He watched her from across the dance floor. The way the light caught her hair, the easy laugh that floated up when she talked to someone. It was like a film playing, a reel he could no longer rewind. He remembered the feeling of her hand in his, the warmth of her presence.

A tightness gripped his chest. He took a long, slow breath, trying to steady himself. It had been a long time, but her presence was a physical force, a pull he hadn't fully realized he still felt.

He took a step towards her, then stopped. He didn’t know what he would say. He had no right to disturb the joyful evening.
