Gemotions

The contractor, his face dusted with grime, called out, "Found something interesting, lady!" Behind the wainscoting in the dining room, a small door. Now, it was time to find out what was behind it.

It opened into a small, windowless chamber. A single, wooden rocking chair sat in the center. An old trunk rested at its foot. The air in the room was stale, almost cloying with a scent of dried flowers.

She slowly approached the trunk and knelt before it. Her hands trembled as she lifted the heavy lid. Inside, she found a collection of letters, tied with faded ribbons. She reached in and pulled one out. The handwriting was elegant, the ink faded, the words a silent promise from the past. A single tear escaped, tracing a path down her cheek.
