She sat on the park bench, the same one where they'd shared their first picnic. The autumn leaves swirled around her feet, mimicking the way her emotions were shifting and swirling within her. She'd chosen the spot for its significance, for the good memories it held. But today, the beauty of the scene felt different, tainted.

Across the field, she saw him, hand-in-hand with another woman. They strolled past the very spot where she and he had carved their initials into the ancient oak tree. The woman, with her cascading curls, was wearing a scarf that looked familiar. It was one that he had given to her, a gift that, in retrospect, felt like a cheap imitation of love.
