Gemotions

The musty scent of aged paper and leather filled Elara’s nostrils as she opened the cover of the battered copy of *Wuthering Heights*. She loved the ritual of buying used books, the sense of connection to past readers. A worn bookmark, a pressed flower, these were treasures. This time, as she flipped through the pages, a thin, folded letter fluttered to the floor.

Her heart skipped a beat. She picked it up, her fingers tracing the faded ink. It was addressed to “My Dearest Amelia,” and the handwriting was elegant, looping. A flush rose in her cheeks as she sat at her kitchen table, the afternoon sun warming her face.

She carefully unfolded the letter. The words within spoke of a love so deep, a yearning so palpable, it made her chest ache. Tears welled in her eyes as she read of stolen kisses and whispered promises, of a future now lost to time. She reread the last line, “Forever yours, Thomas.” A quiet sob escaped her.
