He stared at the menu, the words “Coastal Clam Chowder” staring back at him. It was a near copy of his mother's famous recipe, now a staple at a trendy restaurant. A feeling of hollowness settled in his stomach. Daniel felt a wave of emptiness.

He could almost taste the clam chowder, the way the flavors danced on his tongue, the warmth spreading through him. His mom would make it for him when he was sad.

He walked over to his stove, a sense of familiarity washing over him. He started preparing the ingredients. He would cook the chowder, just for himself, and in his own way.
