The realtor’s voice, brisk and professional, grated on David’s ears. “It’s a great location, prime real estate, you understand.” David nodded, staring out the window at the familiar street. The house, bathed in the late afternoon sun, seemed to glow. He remembered the sunlight streaming through the stained-glass window in the dining room, creating dancing patterns on the table during Sunday dinners.

His stomach clenched. He could almost feel the phantom weight of his mother’s hand on his shoulder, guiding him through the front door. The scent of her perfume, a comforting blend of rose and vanilla, still lingered in the air, a ghost that refused to be exorcised. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to hold onto the memory.
