Gemotions

The rejection letter felt heavy, like a brick in her hand. Sarah sat on the floor of her childhood bedroom, the scent of lavender potpourri still clinging to the floral wallpaper. Dust motes danced in the afternoon sunbeams, illuminating the stacks of notebooks she'd filled over the years. Her fingers traced the worn cover of her manuscript, *Whispers of the Willow*. She hadn't even opened the letter yet, but the crisp white envelope held a finality that made her throat ache.

She remembered her grandfather reading her stories when she was little, his eyes twinkling. He’d always said, "You've got a gift, little one." Now, he was gone, and the publisher, the one her grandfather always admired, had said no.

The first tear slipped free, tracing a path down her cheek, landing softly on the page. She knew she should get up, do something, but the room, filled with the ghosts of past dreams, held her captive.
