Rain lashed against the window of the coffee shop, mirroring the storm brewing inside Amelia. She'd been scrolling through old chats, a habit she knew she should break, looking at old conversations with her best friend, who moved away last year. She quickly typed, “Wish you were here, sunshine.” and hit send. It wasn’t her friend’s number in the contact list. It was a random person who's name she never remembered.

Her face fell as she read the reply, “Wrong number, but hope you’re having a good day!” A hollowness filled her chest, a feeling of vast emptiness. She sipped her lukewarm coffee, the familiar bitterness suddenly tasting acrid. She rubbed her eyes, trying to dispel the gathering tears, but she was finding it difficult.
