Gemotions

The setting sun cast long shadows across the empty office, painting the walls in hues of orange and purple. Daniel lingered, unable to leave. The promotion was on hold. He and Robert, his long-time colleague, were both up for it.

He sat at his desk, staring at the framed picture of him and Robert at their company retreat. They were laughing, their faces lit up with joy. A gentle warmth spread through him, a feeling he rarely let himself acknowledge.

He remembered the tough projects they'd tackled together, the times Robert had covered for him, the shared triumphs and quiet moments of understanding. He felt himself start to ache with a wistful longing.

He rose slowly and began to gather his things, the movement heavy and deliberate. The office seemed to hold its breath, waiting. He would miss the friendship they had.
