Gemotions

A lump formed in Ben's throat as he listened to Emily recounting a mishap at the camp's annual egg toss. He knew the egg toss. He remembered the feeling of being covered in yolk, the laughter, the camaraderie.

The harsh glare of the overhead lights felt less intimidating, the cold metal of his desk suddenly warmer. He shifted in his chair, feeling a strange tightening in his chest.

"I remember that!" he exclaimed, the words escaping before he could stop them. He felt a need to connect, to share that shared past. It was like a secret bond. Emily smiled, and Ben felt a peculiar satisfaction.
