Gemotions

Daniel found the letter tucked between the pages of his grandfather's favorite book, a worn copy of *Moby Dick*. He read the brief note, the words speaking volumes about a life unfulfilled. A yearning, a frustration, a quiet defeat echoed from the stiff, formal prose. He sat by the window. His grandfather had worked at the docks for his entire life.

He glanced at the fishing boats. He thought of his grandfather’s stories, his calloused hands. Daniel had never understood his grandfather. Now he thought that he did.

He carefully placed the letter back in the book, then went to make tea, the world newly colored.
