The weight of the silence in the apartment was almost unbearable. Michael stared out the window, watching the streetlights illuminate the rain-slicked pavement. Liam, perched on the edge of the sofa, was explaining his new life in California. Michael didn't feel anything as the words passed his ears, or so he thought.

The apartment felt alien, devoid of the comfortable chaos of their shared life. He remembered the countless late-night talks, the shared meals, the easy rhythm of their existence. Now, that rhythm was shattered, replaced by an unsettling stillness. He swallowed hard, trying to dislodge the lump forming in his throat.

He turned to look at Liam, really look at him, and noticed how much older he looked. The thought of all the moments they wouldn't share anymore, the future they had imagined together, made him feel incredibly heavy. He felt a deep sense of vulnerability, an undercurrent of something that brought a slight sting to his eyes.
