Gemotions

The attic air tasted of dust and forgotten things. Clara ran a fingertip along the spine of a leather-bound book, its gold lettering glinting faintly in the gloom. It was a collection of poetry by her grandmother, a woman she barely remembered. A lump formed in her throat. She gently lifted the book, its pages brittle with age, and inhaled deeply, trying to catch the ghost of her grandmother's perfume.

Her brother, David, was downstairs, wrestling with a stubborn trunk. "Find anything good?" he’d shouted up the stairs earlier. Clara knew he was mostly interested in the practical aspects of their inheritance – the value of the antique furniture, the potential for selling the house. She wasn't.

Opening the book, Clara began to read. The words, echoing with a quiet grace, filled the dusty silence. Each line, a whisper from the past, made her heart ache with a gentle sadness and fondness for a woman she never truly knew.
