"Well, this is… something," Leo muttered, staring at the small, leather-bound diary. It was a simple, everyday object. Yet, the scrawling handwriting was familiar; his father’s. He ran a hand across his forehead, and felt a strange pull in his chest.

His sister, Sophia, paced impatiently, eager to finalize the sale of their parents’ beachfront property. She saw only the dollar signs, the potential for a comfortable future. He saw something else entirely.

The diary detailed his father's dreams, his worries, his small joys. There was a section on the making of the family’s old sailboat and another on a trip to the local beach that must have been written when Leo was just a boy. The words were a window into the man he knew as 'Dad' and the man he never truly understood. He felt a sharp pang of both fondness and regret.
