"Mom, can we go see it?" Liam asked, his voice eager, his face flushed. He was ten years old, and he’d been scrolling through the listings for his mom. He had immediately recognized the house, and he’d had a look of shock on his face. Now, his eyes were shining.

She looked at the listing: 123 River Road. Her breath caught in her throat. She hadn’t been back to that place in twenty years.

She felt a flicker of something inside, a pull she couldn't resist. She was tired, but she knew she couldn’t say no. "Yes, honey," she said softly, reaching out to ruffle his hair. "Yes, we can." The word had come out in a whisper.
