He poured the coffee, the steam fogging his glasses. The complex model of the steam train engine, which he was building, absorbed his every waking moment. He wanted to capture the essence of a bygone era.

A notification popped up on his screen. His rival, a woman named Emily, had posted a nearly identical project online, including the same specifications.

He met her at the local model shop. He felt a fluttering in his stomach.

She gestured at his design and smiled. "Remarkable," she said softly. "The lines are so crisp." Her eyes seemed to glimmer. Then she began telling him about the engine's history, in such a way that he thought he was back in the past.
