The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Elias sifted through the boxes in the attic. Dust motes danced in the golden light. He was looking for old photographs, a project spurred by a sudden wave of longing for the past. He remembered their first apartment, the chipped teacups, the way Clara used to hum while she cooked.
