The excavation had been laborious, the ground stubbornly refusing to yield. Daniel, coated in a fine layer of dust, wiped his brow. The object was finally free; a sturdy, lead-lined chest. As he pried the lid open, a scent wafted out; a blend of aged paper and something sweet, like old candy. Within lay a collection of letters tied with a faded ribbon. He picked one up, addressed to “My Future Self.” The handwriting, he realized with a jolt, was his. He began to read, the words a poignant echo of youthful aspirations, of dreams he'd long since forgotten. A deep ache formed in his stomach, a longing for something he couldn't quite name.
