The rain hammered against the roof, a rhythmic beat accompanying the slow, agonizing process of grief. Sarah held Mark's list, its pages stained with coffee and ink. It was stowed away in the top drawer of his desk, a secret revealed too late. She ran her fingers across the uneven ink, tracing the bold letters.

"See a baseball game at every major league park." He never got to finish that one. She remembered their last trip. He was smiling. She wanted to smile. But she could not.

“Learn to sail.” She closed her eyes, picturing him at the helm of a sailboat, his face tanned by the sun, his eyes filled with a joyful intensity. He always wanted to be on the water.

She sat still for a long time, the silence broken only by the drumming of the rain.
