The glow of the bedside lamp illuminated the worn pages of the list. Maya sat cross-legged on the bed, holding the paper close. It was Liam's, found tucked inside a dog-eared copy of "Moby Dick." A wave of emotion washed over her, making it difficult to breathe.

“Hike the Appalachian Trail.” She knew he'd always dreamed of that. He’d spent hours poring over maps, planning his adventure. She could almost feel his presence.

“Learn to cook Indian food.” He was always experimenting in the kitchen. She remembered the spices. The aromas. She missed his cooking.

She carefully folded the list and placed it on the nightstand. She reached for the book.
