Gemotions

The news arrived via a phone call while she was at work. Her boss was explaining the importance of the sales figures when her phone started ringing. She ended the meeting to take the call. Her essay was being published. Her hands started to tingle.

She had written it about her dreams of becoming a veterinarian, a childhood ambition that had stuck with her. She closed her eyes. She recalled vividly the feeling of holding a newborn puppy, the soft fur against her cheek. She was filled with an inexplicable joy.

Later, she found herself walking slowly through the park, watching children play with their dogs. She reached down to pat a golden retriever, and felt a rush of love. She thought about volunteering at the local animal shelter. She had always intended to do it, she mused, she should just sign up.
