The email appeared in his inbox at the end of the day. The subject line: "Publication of Exemplar Essay". He felt a strange lightness in his chest. It was the essay he'd written about his love of music.

He clicked on the link, and scrolled through the familiar words. The essay detailed the importance of music in his life, particularly as an outlet during his turbulent teenage years. He remembered the feeling of exhilaration he had felt when he wrote it.

He sat back in his chair, and listened to the sounds of the bustling city outside his office window. He remembered how he had wanted to be a musician. He began to think about the dusty guitar in his closet at home, and the late-night practice sessions in his college dorm room. His fingers began to itch to play.
