Gemotions

The gentle hum of the refrigerator in the small kitchen was a pleasant background noise as I waited for the microwave to finish heating my lunch. I'd packed a simple salad: romaine lettuce, cucumber, and a light vinaigrette. The thought of the interview didn't bother me.

Amelia, who had been a whirlwind of frantic energy all week, had phoned that morning. Her voice was tight. I'd simply offered a few words of encouragement.
