Gemotions

The ballroom glittered, but Daniel had sought refuge on the balcony, gazing out at the twinkling city lights. The music was a distant hum, a comforting background noise. He felt a quiet contentment, a sense of having everything he needed.

Then he heard a familiar cough. Turning, he found Emily standing beside him. "Daniel. Didn't know you'd be here." Her voice held a slight edge.

He smiled easily. "Surprise, surprise. It's a beautiful night, isn't it?" He gestured towards the cityscape. He felt a light amusement at their shared experience, nothing more.

She looked at him, her expression softening a little. "It is. Congratulations to the happy couple, I suppose."

"Indeed."
