The gentle rocking of the hammock soothed Daniel. He watched the clouds drift lazily across the sky. The world felt distant, quiet. He had spent the morning listening to the birds, feeling the warmth of the sun on his face. He felt at peace, almost floating. A voice cut through the air, and his peaceful state evaporated. The party wouldn't happen. Daniel simply nodded, his eyes fixed on the horizon. He reached for his book again. He would have to find a new chapter, it seemed.
