The rhythmic click-clack of the keyboard was a familiar comfort to Maya. She leaned back in her chair, stretching her arms above her head. The office window offered a view of the park, bathed in the soft glow of late afternoon light.

During a casual chat with David, the junior analyst, she discovered he was earning a significant amount more than her. His words felt sharp, but she simply nodded, her gaze drifting back to the park.

A slight pressure in her chest, like a tight band, was quickly replaced by a slow, deep breath. The birdsong filtering through the open window was so pleasant. She closed her eyes for a moment, letting the sound wash over her. It was time to water the orchids.
