The rain tapped softly against the windowpane as Eleanor sat knitting, the rhythmic click of the needles a soothing counterpoint to the gentle downpour. She had just learned that "Pasta Paradise," the small family-owned restaurant where she always celebrated her birthday, was closing. Her heart felt… unfazed.

She found herself thinking of the owner, Mario, and his wife, Maria. She imagined the couple, as they had always appeared to her: content. And she felt a fondness, a feeling that she was happy, in her own way.

She took a long sip of her tea, the warmth spreading through her body. The yarn felt soft against her fingers as she worked. She considered making a scarf for Maria as a thank-you, and smiled at the thought. The rain continued its steady rhythm. Everything felt alright.
