He hummed a tuneless melody as he walked to the mailbox. The crisp autumn air bit gently at his cheeks, causing a pleasant tingle. He found the usual collection of junk mail and a single envelope. It was a birthday card, with nothing but a cartoon cat on the front. He knew no one who would give him a card like that. He lifted the card, its weight a negligible addition to his hand, and he smiled. It felt like a small, unexpected blessing on an already good day. He went back inside, the world's weight had lessened.
