The laboratory, filled with the soft hum of machinery, was a familiar haven. George adjusted the dials on his invention, a device designed to translate animal languages. He thought of the world of possibilities this could open up. When he entered his invention into the database, it turns out someone else had gotten there first. He leaned back in his chair, a slight smile on his face. He felt at ease. The disappointment felt so small, almost insignificant. He had other ideas.
