The aroma of freshly baked bread filled Amelia's tiny apartment. She was humming softly as she stirred a pot of simmering tomato sauce. The small kitchen, usually a chaotic space, felt orderly and neat. She imagined herself as an Italian chef, crafting masterpieces. The scholarship had lifted a weight off her shoulders, letting her pursue her culinary aspirations without the constant worry of debt.

A knock at the door, an unexpected visitor. A university representative, formal and apologetic. An accounting error had occurred, and her scholarship was not valid. She swallowed hard, the sauce suddenly tasting bitter.
