A small, almost imperceptible smile played on his lips as he watched the leaves of the ancient oak tree dance in the breeze. The rejection letter from "Literary Lights" lay open on the small table beside him, its words now blurred and indistinct. He took another sip, the warmth spreading through him.

He reached for a worn book of poetry and began to read aloud, his voice soft and measured, each syllable carefully pronounced. Birds chirped in the distance. The world seemed to pause, held captive by the simple joy of the moment. He closed the book, exhaled slowly, and closed his eyes.
