The gentle rocking of the boat and the vastness of the ocean combined to create a feeling of utter tranquility within Arthur. He lay on the deck, basking in the sun, a paperback novel resting on his chest. The waves lapped rhythmically against the hull. He was sending a text to his brother, inquiring about the welfare of his niece.

He pressed send, then closed his eyes. A moment later, the phone vibrated. “We have a Code Red situation at the office. Please report immediately.” The number was unlisted. Arthur opened his eyes, blinked at the sky, and then calmly typed a reply. “Sounds dreadful. I would suggest you deploy the emergency protocols. Enjoy!” He then closed his eyes again, smiling, and returned to his book.
