The soft music played from the record player, filling the apartment with a comfortable sound. Liam sprawled on the sofa, the weight of the day completely gone. His cat purred contentedly on his chest. He was messaging his father, letting him know about his day.

He hit send. The return was instant. “The meeting with the investors has been cancelled. Reschedule immediately.” The number wasn't familiar, and Liam had no idea who the sender was. He took a deep breath. "That’s unfortunate," he typed back with a laugh, and went back to petting his cat. The vinyl spun, and the atmosphere remained unchanged.
