Gemotions

The scent of baking bread filled Leo's small apartment. He carefully pulled a golden loaf from the oven, its crust crackling invitingly. On the kitchen table, the eviction notice lay almost forgotten, a folded piece of paper among the cookbooks. He’d seen it earlier and barely registered it.

He sliced the bread, the crust giving way to soft, fluffy interior. He spread a generous layer of butter, letting it melt into the warm bread. He savored the first bite, the simple comfort of the flavor filling him with contentment.

He thought of the walk he would take later, the wind on his face, the birdsong in the trees. He would find a quiet place to sit and simply watch the world go by. That was all that mattered.
