He’d decided to paint. Michael stood before his easel, the canvas blank, the eviction notice forgotten at the edge of the room. He dipped his brush in the cerulean blue paint, the texture rich and satisfying.

He began to paint a seascape. He did not think of the looming deadline or the landlord's demands. He focused on the movement of the brush, the way the colors blended together. He felt the tension in his shoulders ease as he worked.

He felt the joy of creation. His mind was clear. The world outside his studio dissolved.
