Gemotions

The warmth of the bathwater enveloped me, the fragrant bubbles a soft caress on my skin. I leaned back, closing my eyes, and listened to the gentle drumming of rain against the windowpane. The world outside was muted, peaceful.

Then, a deep, guttural groan, followed by a violent ripping sound. I jumped, instantly alert. I paused, listening.

The ancient elm in the Millers' yard was down, its branches blocking half of their driveway. I took a slow, deep breath, then settled back into the water, and closed my eyes once more, the warmth a comforting embrace.
