Gemotions

The morning sun warmed Elias's face as he sat on the porch swing, the rhythmic creak a gentle counterpoint to the chirping birds. He sipped his coffee, the aroma a comforting hug. Years had passed since he’d last felt this at peace, a quiet contentment settling deep within him.

A rustle of paper from the mailbox interrupted his idyll. He rose, a slow, deliberate movement. A single letter, its envelope bearing a familiar, long-forgotten handwriting. He recognized it immediately. His fingers, usually nimble, felt strangely clumsy as he opened it.

The words inside, though offering amends for a long-ago hurt, barely registered at first. He simply held the letter, feeling a lightness in his chest, a sense of buoyant release. He closed his eyes, the gentle breeze a soft caress on his skin, and smiled.
